Georgia Digital Driver's License Program Reaches 150,000 Users Milestone

Digital Drivers License

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) announced a significant achievement on June 13, 2023, with its new Digital Driver's License and ID application reaching 150,000 users in the first month since launch.

The initiative, which began on May 18, is a testament to Georgia's progressive approach in digital identity verification, delivering an efficient, secure, and user-friendly identification process for residents.

Digital Credentialing in Georgia

DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore lauded the quick acceptance of the new system, "Digital credentialing has quickly gained traction among our tech-savvy customers and has proven to be a game-changer in simplifying identification processes while increasing customer security."

Currently, GA Digital Licenses and IDs are accepted at select Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checkpoints. A complete list of accepting locations can be found on the TSA website.

However, the digital driver's license and ID application is not a complete substitute for physical cards. The DDS reminds users that it is still necessary to carry a physical driver's license as required by law.

Getting Started With the Digital Application

To onboard, customers are required to scan a copy of their most recent credential and submit a selfie photo for verification. The selfie photo will not be used as the digital license photo. A series of gestures are also required to complete the process.

The digital system provides a streamlined and efficient identity verification process, reducing the risk of fraudulent identification without compromising security. The DDS emphasized that the agency does not have the ability to track where digital credentials are used, assuring the utmost respect for customer privacy.

DDS Commitment to Innovation

With this milestone, the DDS has shown its dedication to evolving technologies and improving customer service based on user feedback. "The remarkable success of reaching 150,000 downloads is a testament to the DDS' dedication to providing innovative services that meet the needs of Georgia residents in an ever-evolving digital landscape," said Commissioner Moore.
